Slop Oil

Slop oil or waste oil is frequently stored in oil lagoons, and is obtained in the course of cleaning oil tanks, in filter backwash processes, as a waste product of the refining process, by way of leaks or “rejects” – waste from traditional oil treatment installations. They are mixtures of oil, a wide range of chemicals, water as well as coarse and fine solid particles, whereby there can be a major variation in the various compositions.

Stratnor accepts most slop oils that have a solids content of 50% or less. In some cases we do so at no cost to the producer or refiner. In other cases we do so against a barter arrangement whereby we receive in exchange agreed upon barrels of virgin merchantable crude oil or agreed upon barrels of more manageable Off-spec or skim crude oil. If no suitable barter or exchange can be made, we accept slop oil, delivered to our sites, based on the following rate sheet:
